Summary Metrics Formula

Score=โˆ‘i(wiร—minโก(100,CrimesiPopulationร—100,000Thresholdiร—100))\text{Score} = \sum_{i} \left(w_i \times \min\left(100, \frac{\text{Crimes}_i}{\text{Population}} \times \frac{100,000}{\text{Threshold}_i} \times 100\right)\right)

The crime score is calculated as a weighted sum of nine different crime rates (each normalized per 100,000 population and capped at 100), where more severe crimes like homicide (35%) and shootings (25%) have higher weights than lesser crimes like bike theft (2%).

Understanding Per 100,000 Population Statistics

When enabled, crime rates are shown per 100,000 residents to allow fair comparisons between neighborhoods with different populations. The rate is calculated by: (number of incidents รท population) ร— 100,000.

This normalization helps you compare crime rates across neighborhoods, regardless of their population size.
