Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 8, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information Toronto Crime Score ("we", "the site", torontocrimescore.com) collects, how cookies and advertising work on the site, and where our crime data comes from.

Information We Collect

The site is a static, read-only tool. We do not require accounts, we do not ask for personal information, and we do not sell personal data. The neighborhood comparisons you run (for example in the compare tool) happen in your browser or via the page URL and are not stored on our servers as personal data.

Like most websites, our hosting and third-party providers may automatically log standard technical information such as your IP address, browser type, referring page, and pages visited. This data is used for security, performance, and aggregate traffic statistics, and is not used to build individual profiles by us.

Cookies and Google Advertising

This site displays ads served through Google AdSense("Google ads"). To serve and measure ads, Google and its partners use cookies, including the Google cookie, and similar technologies. These cookies allow Google and third-party vendors to serve ads based on your prior visits to this or other websites, and to measure ad performance.

  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
  • You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
  • You can also opt out of third-party vendor cookies for personalized advertising at www.aboutads.info/choices or optout.networkadvertising.org.
  • You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings; blocking cookies may affect how ads display but the site's crime-data tools will keep working.

For details on how Google handles data when you use our partners' sites or apps, see Google's Privacy & Terms.

Crime Data Sources and Disclosure

The crime statistics on this site are derived from public open data:

  • Toronto Police Service โ€” Neighbourhood Crime Rates Open Data dataset, accessed via the TPS ArcGIS REST API.
  • Environics Analytics โ€” neighbourhood population projections, supplied with the TPS dataset and used to normalize crime counts into per-100,000 rates.

Safety scores are severity-weighted, per-capita calculations produced by this site. This site is not an official Toronto Police Service product, and the underlying data may contain errors or lags official releases. Crime statistics describe reported incidents in an area โ€” they cannot tell you anything about specific individuals, and they should never be used as the sole factor in housing or safety decisions.

The footer and some pages link to other websites (for example our GitHub repository or partner tools). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time; changes will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date. Material changes to how ads or cookies are used will be reflected here.
